Nordic Embassies in Berlin Showcase the Diversity of Children’s Book Illustration in a New Exhibition

The Nordic Embassies in Berlin present a new exhibition, “Small, but Great”, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the colourful and poetic world of Nordic children’s literature.

Running from July 18 to October 5, 2025, works by thirteen illustrators from Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Åland will be on display at the Felleshus, the joint building of the five Nordic embassies in Berlin, Germany.

Among them are well-known names such as Tove Jansson, Kjell Aukrust, Linda Bondestam, Gry Moursund and Stina Wirsén – as well as exciting new voices from the Nordic illustration scene.

A Visual Journey

Visitors can expect a visual journey through snowy landscapes, volcanic eruptions, flying buses, and magical beings, always accompanied by a profound connection to nature and a childlike curiosity.

Original works and high-quality prints highlight the impressive range of artistic styles and storytelling methods found in Nordic children’s literature. A cozy reading corner invites guests to browse a wide selection of Nordic children’s books—from timeless classics to recent releases.

Open from July until October

The exhibition, accompanied by a rich program, runs from July 18 to October 5, 2025. It is a collaborative production by the Nordic Embassies in Berlin, supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The exhibiting artists are: Emma AdBåge (SE), Kjell Aukrust (NO), Linda Bondestam (FI), Amanda Chanfreau (AX), Rán Flygenring (IS), Anna Jacobina Jacobsen (DK), Tove Jansson (FI), Áslaug Jónsdóttir (IS), Maria Bach Kreutzmann (GL), Gry Moursund (NO), Bárður Oskarsson (FO), Jakob Martin Strid (DK), Stina Wirsén (SE)

The exhibition is curated by Johanna Stenback, designed by Mia-Irene Sundqvist and graphics by Andrei Palomäki.
