The exhibition “Small, but Great” is now open in Berlin

Immerse yourself in the world of Nordic children’s books at the exhibition Small, but Great (Klein Aber Groß), now open at Felleshus in Berlin, Germany.

The exhibition showcases the works of thirteen illustrators from Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Åland. Among them are iconic names such as Tove Jansson, Kjell Aukrust, Linda Bondestam, Gry Moursund, and Stina Wirsén – all represented by Rights & Brands.

A Collaborative Effort of the Nordic Embassies

Organized by the Nordic Embassies in Berlin and supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the exhibition runs until October 5, 2025. It was inaugurated on July 17, drawing over 300 guests to its opening.

The inauguration event welcomed several of the participating artists, including Linda Bondestam, Áslaug Jónsdóttir, Amanda Chanfreau and Stina Wirsén, as well as the curator Johanna Stenback.

What Visitors Can Expect

The exhibition presents both originals and high-quality prints, highlighting the artistic diversity and storytelling traditions of Nordic children’s literature. Visitors are taken on a visual journey through snowy landscapes, volcanic eruptions, flying buses, and magical beings – always rooted in a deep connection to nature and childlike wonder.

A cozy reading corner also invites guests to explore a curated selection of Nordic children’s books, from timeless classics to contemporary releases.

Film and Family Day in September

The exhibition is accompanied by a rich supporting program, including two family events in September:

  • Film DaySunday, September 7 from 10.30 am
    Featuring five animated films for children, with one film representing each participating country.

  • Family DaySunday, September 14, 11:00 am–4:00 pm
    A day filled with workshops and picture book cinema, designed for children and families.
