“Karin Larsson – Let the Hand Be Seen” travels to three museums in the USA
“Karin Larsson – Let the Hand Be Seen” is currently on display at the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia, USA, showcasing the artistic works of Karin Larsson. The exhibition will subsequently travel to Chicago and Minneapolis.
Previously featured at the Kvarnen gallery Carl Larsson-gården in Sundborn during the summers of 2022 and 2023, Karin Larsson’s captivating artworks are now making their way to three museums across the United States: Philadelphia, Chicago, and Minneapolis. The exhibition in Philadelphia at the American Swedish Historical Museum opened in October and will remain accessible to the public until February 18, 2024.
Around the turn of the century in 1900, Karin Larsson (1859-1928) developed a colorful and modern artistry that a hundred years later still fascinates. Karin’s contributions to the prevailing art movements like Art Nouveau, the Arts and Crafts style, and regional folk techniques, are distinguished by her boldness, simplicity, and taste for abstraction. Karin was not afraid to try new techniques as she embroidered, weaved, knitted, and crocheted, often mixed with non-European influences such as Japonism. She also sewed clothes and weaved tapestry.
“Karin Larsson – Let the Hand Be Seen” remains open at the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia from October 19, 2023, to February 18, 2024. Read more about the exhibit on americanswedish.org
