Background
The idea behind Åhléns collaboration was born in a desire to pay tribute to the artist couple Carl and Karin Larsson and their contribution to Swedish art and design culture.
Åhléns had the opportunity to visit the Carl Larsson estate “Lilla Hyttnäs” in Sundborn where Carl & Karin lived from 1889 to 1912. During the vist Åhléns discovered small details and motifs that later became the basis of each piece in the collection.

The Collaboration
Carl and Karin Larsson’s lifestyle and interior inspired and fascinated the design team at Åhléns. With this collection they want to highlight both parties of the Larsson couple and draw attention to the creative magic they crafted together.
Carl and Karin were far ahead of their time in terms of aesthetics, handcrafts, sustainability, and a self-sufficient lifestyle—something that is very current to this day. Åhléns’ collection is suitable for the modern home, with distinguishable design elements from the Carl Larsson estate.
The board on the porcelain in the collection is inspired by a painted rosette loop, where one of the rosettes is tied up and forms Carl’s signature. The rosette loop can be found in Karin’s bedroom at Lilla Hyttnäs, and it was once a birthday gift from Carl to her. Karin’s works have also inspired a large part of the collection, where one of her embroideries has been combined with Carl’s signature as a tribute to the couple.
The inspiration behind the four-leaf clover has its origins in a relief that was found on a cupboard in the couple’s dining room, while an embroidered pattern of flowers from a sofa in the couple’s old studio provided inspiration for the collection’s pattern.
Results
The c/o Larsson collection took over the entrance at Åhléns flagship store in Stockholm, Åhléns City, and was launched with a big event. The collection received a lot of press coverage, including:
