Stig Lindberg Exhibition Now Touring Major Cities in Japan Through 2027

A major exhibition celebrating the works of Stig Lindberg, one of the foremost figures in 20th-century Scandinavian design, opened in Tokyo this August. The traveling exhibition will tour major Japanese cities from 2025 through 2027.

A Journey Through Scandinavian Design

Stig Lindberg: Master of Scandinavian Design in the 20th Century presents around 300 works spanning from the late 1930s to Stig Lindberg’s later years. The items are from the Lindberg family’s personal archive, and the family has also helped curate the selection.

The works on display showcase Stig Lindberg’s designs, including tableware such as crockery and plates, as well as his popular faience and stoneware made in his studio, textile prints, illustrations for picture books, various design objects, and sketches. The exhibition also includes aspects of Lindberg’s work that have not previously been shown in Japan.

First Stops: Tokyo and Osaka

The exhibition debuted at Tokyo’s Takashimaya Nihombashi store before moving on to the Osaka Takashimaya, where it was on display until September 21, 2025. In addition to the curated galleries, Lindberg’s iconic prints were also featured in Takashimaya’s storefront windows. Each display highlighted a specific design theme, including beloved patterns such as Prunus, Berså, Adam, and Aster
