Sam Wilde Presents ‘Fifth Season’ – Street Art Sculptures in Shenzhen, China

In a collaboration with the municipality of Shenzhen, China, Sam Wilde has created a series of street art sculptures themed around a radioactive reimagining of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The art installation opened in May 2025 and will be on display for three months.

Step inside a giant hedge maze alive with glowing plant forms, towering flowers and drifting islands, as Sam Wilde has created a world where nature has mutated beyond its own rules. At its centre, a vast blue monarch butterfly hovers. An omen hinting at paradise while pulsing in warning at something more toxic that lies beneath.

Part living organism, part synthetic spectacle, an artificial Eden in perpetual bloom — enticing, distorted, and impossible to trust.

This reimagined rendition of Eden plays on the tension between the organic and the man-made, envisioning a world where artificial fertilisers and genetically modified crops have leaked into the ecosystem and ‘super-charged’ the environment, causing the fruits and flowers of paradise to undergo a remarkable transformation and proliferate in abundance.
