Christmas According to Julia
A hilarious rom-com full of mischief and Christmas magic.
Julia hates Christmas. Maybe things would be different if she wasn't alone. But after last year's "Santa Claus incident", she doesn't want to spend the holidays with her parents. So it's Christmas with Mr Merlot and Monsieur Chardonnay as her companions.
Petter, on the other hand, is struggling with his dissertation and his ex-wife announces that she will to celebrate Christmas on the island of Gotland and will take their daughter with her. And to top it all off, bedroom problems led to total humiliation on his latest date.
When Julia gets the chance to flee the city over the Christmas holidays to an idyllic stone house in Visby, a town on the island of Gotland in exchange for being a cat sitter, she jumps at the chance. Little does she know that Petter has received the same offer as he travels to Visby hoping for reconciliation with his ex-wife.
Their first encounter is a disaster, but it's only the beginning.
Christmas According to Julia is an entertaining rom-com about finding yourself and love where you least expect it. It is a story about being saved by an elf, about nosy neighbours, and about a snow-covered Visby where anything is possible at Christmas time.

Reviews
"This is an easy-to-read book that I couldn't put down. I laughed out loud, while at the same time shedding a little tear. Kristin has an incredibly beautiful language in her books. A language that makes me, as a reader, feel like I'm part of the story."
"The best Christmas lit of the year."
"This is well-written and funny, with witty dialogue, and it feels like the whole story is written with a twinkle in the eye. The characters are colourful and vibrant. And a little splash of Christmas magic adds the finishing touch. Christmas According to Julia is a wonderful Christmas praline, this is exactly how I like my Christmas novels!"
"A real romantic comedy."
"The book has an entertaining cast of characters, including a neighbour who is an alternative medicine practitioner, Santa Claus and a love-struck 20-year-old (...) a well-written, biting, ironic and funny book about the hardships of finding true love."
"I read with a smile on my face and that's a good rating. Quick and charming is the rating and this is a book that would have made an excellent miniseries. Perhaps something for Josephine Bornebusch to sink her teeth into and of course play the lead role of Julia."
"This is a really lovely smash hit with lots of hilarious incidents and comic elements, but I like that there is also a common depth in several of the characters; which is to dare to bet a little more in life! (...) This is certainly a new favourite among Christmas novels."
"Christmas according to Julia is a classic feelgood with a Christmas feel, where the theme is mainly about love with obstacles. It is also very much about finding yourself, daring to take the step to start something new and that love can be found where you least expect it. The environmental depictions from a snow-covered Visby give extra feeling to the story (...) Perfect to relax with in these times."
"This is a romantic comedy full of hilarious incidents, misunderstandings, love and humour. But there is also a depth to the book."
"This is a Christmas romance with a lot of humour and very cosy characters. Both the eccentric neighbour's wife and the, in my opinion charming, young Jonatan are very warmly portrayed and they contribute greatly to the book's atmosphere. The fact that there is a lot of snow and a cosy Visby does not make matters worse."
"If you want to escape the dark grey everyday life for a while and long for a romantic feel-good with speed and breath, I can recommend ‘Christmas According to Julia’ by Kristin Emilsson. A charming cinematic comedy that makes me think of ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary. (...) Oh how I like this light-hearted little gem! It really made me forget reality for a while and I felt great sympathy for all the lovely characters, who are vividly described and become like new friends. Setting the story on a wintry Gotland with all the cosy and exposed environments is a winning concept. (...) I like the quick and fairly straightforward narrative style and am probably extra receptive to the genre right now. Therefore, I close the book with satisfaction and a smile on my face. I would like to meet Julia more times in the future."
