Anna Soudakova shortlisted for the Toisinkoinen Literature Prize
We at Rights & Brands are delighted to share that Anna Soudakova’s Protect My Shadow (in Finnish Varjele varjoani) has been shortlisted for the Toisinkoinen Literary Prize, awarded for second novels. Our warmest congratulations to the author!
This past October, Toisinkoinen highlighted in their blog review that:
“Protect My Shadow is a beautiful and thoughtful piece of prose. … The women of the novel are decision makers, active participants in their own lives and they are united in the desire to achieve peace of mind and to find profound companionship. They are headstrong and persevering. … The changing of the narrators expands the story to address life’s continuum, which becomes intriguing to the reader for they see through the generational conflicts. The reader thus understands the characters better than they understand each other. … The themes about daughters and mothers, contemporary history, the challenges of communication, and finding a bond form a web of connections in which everything serves a meaning to one’s life.”
The annual prize is presented by a panel of Finnish literature students at the University of Helsinki. This year the winner will be announced on November 10th at Toisinkoinen Gala, held at the Finnish Museum of Theater.
