Lotta, Mardie and the Brother Lionhearts – Ilon Wikland’s storybook illustrations adventure to Finland

This summer the Moomin Museum’s temporary exhibition in Tampere, Finland invites visitors to the timeless world of illustrator Ilon Wikland. 

Estonian-born Swedish artist and illustrator Ilon Wikland is well-known for illustrating some of the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren’s most appreciated works. The collaboration that started from the book Mio, My Son (1954) span for decades, and over the years Wikland brought to life several well-known characters from Lindgren’s books.

This summer some of these memorable Wikland works are on display at the Moomin Museum’s Observatory in Tampere Finland. The exhibition offers a wide range of Wikland’s works and features many famous characters such as Brothers Lionheart, Mardie, the children of the Noisy Village, little Lotta, Karlsson on the Roof and many other characters from Lindgren’s beloved books. The artworks in the exhibition are on loan from Ilon’s Wonderland museum in Haapsalu, Estonia, and is the largest ever seen outside Estonia.

The exhibition opened on May 11th and will continue until September 19th 2021.
