Mira and Moon: A Heart of Gold

By Sofie Sarenbrant

The second part in Sarenbrant’s terrific horse book series about Mira and Moon.

Young Mira feels most comfortable in the stables, where she has befriended the stable horse, Moon. She feels that Moon understands her more than anyone, even though he has four legs and eats hay. Mira dreams of racing him, and it becomes now or never because soon she will grow too big to ride Moon for competition.

With each riding lesson, Mira becomes a better and safer rider. But one day, the happy Moon is bouncier than usual, and as they are about to practice jump, it leads Mira into an accident. She then decides to stop riding. Will Mira still find her way back to her best friend?

A Heart of Gold is about dreams and fears, friendship and betrayal, as well as about the love of a riding school pony by an anxious young girl.

About the author

Sofie Sarenbrant is one of Sweden’s most beloved and successful authors. Her books have been translated into 17 languages and sold over 7 million copies to date. She was awarded the prestigious Swedish Crime Writer of the Year award in 2019 and 2020 and 2022 and has also won the Nextory E-book Award three times. Sarenbrant is most well known for her captivating and contemporary series following the police detective Emma Sköld and her team. The combination of suspenseful investigations, and unexpected cliffhangers with relatable depictions of self-doubt and courage has made the series a favorite amongst many crime readers. Sarenbrant’s way of storytelling reflects a genuine and deep understanding of different narratives and perspectives, while at the same having the page-turner quality. The series take place largely in Stockholm and the idyllic suburb Bromma, where the author herself lives with her family.  “Instead of a worn-out, alcoholic chief inspector in the lead role, I wanted a young, career-oriented woman my own age. Emma Sköld follows in her father’s footsteps, without his blessing. He thinks there are too many risks in police work, and it will turn out that he’s right. Emma encounters prejudice in her job as a police detective because she is young and beautiful. No one expects that she will be the most competent of them all and dare to question what no one else will.”  – Sofie Sarenbrant Sarenbrant has also written a psychological thriller Behind Your Back in 2017, and the acclaimed autobiography Muzzle in 2021.  In 2022, she made her debut as a children’s author with Mira and Moon, a new book series for middle-grade readers about a young girl and her strong bond with her favorite pony. Best-seller The Birthday is the first part of the new suspense series created by Carina Bergfeldt and Sofie Sarenbrant. The standalone sequel Good Friday was released in May 2024.In autumn 2026, the first instalment of the new suspense series by Sarenbrant will be published by Bokförlaget Forum.

Reviews

"Sofie Sarenbrant is well established as a crime author and has also found her own niche in the large horse book industry - to focus on and give a voice to those who find it difficult to keep up with the conversation and understand all communication (... ) The author draws a nice picture of the person who has it harder than most others, how it feels when your only parent is burnt out and the bailiff starts sending demand letters at the same time as you love horses and want to be able to take riding lessons as usual. Straightforward language and an airy layout make the book easy to read for most people, even more inexperienced readers."

“The books are well written, the chapters are just the right length and there is a drive that makes it hard to stop reading. I think many people would like these books very much and that there are many readers who can relate to Mira. I hope there will be more books in the series about Mira & the Moon, because they are needed!”

Barnboksbloggen (children’s books blog)

“The series about Mira and the Moon is a nice series that deals with friendship, dreams, alienation and the pressure to succeed, and a big dose of horses (...) Everyday relationship tension that captures the reader. Mira is a girl who is easy to like and get involved with”

Boknjutaren (book blog)

“A very nicely written book with tenderness and warmth, but above all about the love for a pony… Mira & Moon, a new classic.”
