The Troll on the Third Floor and Two Other Tales

By Kristian Eskild Jensen Martin Glaz Serup

Three frightening, thrilling and magical tales to become the new Danish classics.

A man-eater prowls freely in the town each night, kidnapping people, so a young girl must go after the monster in its cavern to save her father. But what looks like a giant mole turns out to be a cursed man in disguise.
A flying suitcase that can take you everywhere in the world, who wouldn’t wish to have something like that? The son of a merchant inherits of both the shop and the suitcase and promises to his father to do what his father never did: fly far away on the suitcase. But the son is more interested in having a shop than travelling around the world?

There is a troll living on the third floor. Two brothers decide to lure the troll to his death and kill him as courage trial, leaving their younger brother behind. But the troll is not as easy to lure as one might believe, even with pies and cakes, and their younger brother proves to be braver and cleverer than they assumed.

The Man-Eater, The Suitcase and The Troll on the Third Floor are three grim yet mesmerizingly scary stories, written in the tradition of the best Danish fairy tales by Martin Glaz Serup, and illustrated with wonderfully frightening and beautiful pictures by Kristian Eskild Jensen.

Reviews

"Well-written and witty stories, with clear references to the classic fairy tales. The beautiful illustrations contribute nicely to the book's very special atmosphere. High quality publication, beautiful, and with an attractive cover."

Dansk Bibliotekscenter

"Several titles play with fairy tales, but here we are talking about a work that elevates itself artistically through genre play, iconic text, and a belief in the child's literary framework of understanding, and with this we are talking about literary equality between child and adult who can shudder and laugh together and guess at the reading. The Troll on the Third Floor and Two Other Tales belongs in the premier league of children's literature."

Bogbotten.dk

"In The Troll on the Third Floor and Two Other Tales, Glaz Serup is back on the grotesque track, which is clearly the most attractive."
