Bricmate + NOTE Design Studio – Stig Lindberg

Background

Stig Lindberg (1916-1982) is one of Sweden’s most important post-war designers. For Stig Lindberg, accessibility and usability were of utmost importance. He was never finished with a pattern but would always add, update and develop color schemes and present new versions that would fit the aesthetic ideals of the time. Stig Lindberg’s art treasure is today managed by his family, and the licensees who get to work with Lindberg’s art are carefully selected.

Note Design Studio is a Stockholm-based studio founded in 2008. It works in architecture, interior design, products, graphic design, and design strategy. Together with tile experts Bricmate, Note created a line of porcelain tiles in the spirit of Lindberg.

The Collaboration

In this series of Porcelain Stoneware tiles, Bricmate has selected and updated four of Stig Lindberg’s patterns: Dot, Filigran, Railing and Lattice.

Bricmate made the selection, color scheme, and design in collaboration with Note Design Studio, which, like Lindberg, works across categories and genres. The styles of the tiles are very versatile and can be used for any space, including kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.

By being applied to porcelain stoneware, Stig Lindberg’s timeless patterns are placed in a new context where designs from more than a half-century ago meet modern technology and a current aesthetic. The result is a beautiful and harmonious combination of patterns with a subtlety that balances color and shapes. Each pattern comes in a blue, yellow, and brown shade. Together they create a cohesive collection, and both colors and patterns can be combined.

To celebrate the launch, Bricmate held a press event at its flagship store. The Stig Lindberg tiles was on display at the store and also used in the showroom.
