UK’s Leading Bookseller Waterstones Celebrates 80 Years of Moomin Stories
From August onwards, Waterstones, the UK’s leading bookseller, is celebrating the 80th anniversary of Moomin in its shops. The flagship location, Waterstones Piccadilly in London – Europe’s largest bookshop – now features Moomin decorations throughout the store and in its shop windows.
Moomin at Waterstones Piccadilly
On August 1st, 2025, the Piccadilly store unveiled its Moomin installations, designed by artist Elena Selena. The paper art installations, inspired by the pop-up book The Moomins Find a Home, have previously been seen at the NK department store in Stockholm.
Visitors can explore a beautiful Moomin house on the second floor and enjoy a Moomin-themed café, making it a perfect stop for fans of all ages.
Moomin Events Across the UK in August
Throughout August, Waterstones locations have hosted Moomin story times, a panel event with Moomin superfans Cariad Lloyd, Paul Gravett, Philip Ardagh and Akiya Henry, and a themed afternoon tea to mark the anniversary. Special meet-and-greets with Moomintoll have also delighted children and families across the country.
Storyteller Liz Fost led an interactive storytelling session with tales and mask-making at Waterstones Piccadilly on August 10th. This event will also take place at Waterstones Brighton on August 23rd and Manchester Deansgate on August 31st.
