Otava Literary Foundation awards illustrator Johanna Lumme with Kaarina-Helakisa prize
Illustrator and author Johanna Lumme has been awarded the Kaarina-Helakisa prize by the Otava Literary Foundation for her work as an illustrator, as an artist and as a children’s book author.
Illustrator, artist, and children’s book author Johanna Lumme has redeemed her place among some of the most renowned Finnish illustrators and children’s book authors. Johanna Lumme is also known as a painter, and her illustrations are characterized by bold colors, movement, and agility. In the year 2019 she released her own picture book series about The Jungle Crew, and the series already has 4 parts with the newest addition: The Jungle Crew – The Sprouting Rebellion being released in August of 2022. The series also contains the following titles: The Jungle Crew – into the City, The Jungle Crew – Into the Deep Blue and The Jungle Crew – The Secret of the Garden, all published by Otava Publishing Company.
The motivation from the Otava Publishing Foundation reads as follows:
“In her good-natured picture book series about the Jungle Crew, the illustrations have a touch of animation, as the images pulse with joy of life and warm humor. As an artist of color, she manages to create Illustrations that the viewer wants to jump into. Johanna Lumme’s benevolent illustration glistens with the power of expression and the joy of creation. It invites the child to enjoy it.”
