Hans Arnold (1925-2010) was a Swiss-Swedish artist and illustrator. He grew up in a very strict and conservative Catholic area in Sursee, Switzerland. Having finished art school in Luzern and traveling Europe, Arnold finally settled in Stockholm, Sweden in the late 1940s.

Arnold got his big breakthrough as ”The Master of Horror” when he was a horror illustrator for magazines and weekly readers’ journals, his drawings are characterized by surrealism, psychedelic influences and heaps of dark humor. In 1975, Arnold was also — a little surprisingly — commissioned to create the cover art for ABBA:s double album Greatest Hits. The band was at the height of its career, and Arnold became a household name. Today, Hans Arnold has gained an international cult following.

The painting Girl with Birds (“Fågelflickan”) has been featured on a t-shirt and as an allover print on a dress and shirt.

Two of Hans Arnold’s black-and-white art designs, his self-portrait and the painting The Cat Girl (“Kattflickan”) featured on white t-shirts.
