Annika Sandelin’s translation makes the IBBY’s International Honorary List 2022
The International Board of Books for Young People (IBBY) publish an International Honorary list every second year. This year, the works of five Finnish illustrators, writers and translators have been added to the international, prestigious honorary list, including Rights & Brands represented author Annika Sandelin.
Annika Sandelin’s Swedish translation of the book Otus Opus (swe: Zoologipoesi) has risen to IBBY’s international list. The book is originally written in Finnish by Laura Ruohonen and illustrated by Erika Kallasmaa and was nominated for the Finlandia Junior Prize in 2020. Annika Sandelin is a children’s book poet whose translation of the work is filled with wittiness and rhythm, honoring the original text by Laura Ruohonen.
The list also includes the Finnish translation of Linda Bondestam’s book My Life on the Bottom (Mitt Bottenliv- Av en ensam Axolotl). The book has also been nominated for the August Prize and the Nordic Council Children’s and Young People’s Literature Prize 2021.
In all, in 2022, a total of 163 “excellent quality” works were included in the list. IBBY Finland ry promotes the position of children’s and young people’s literature and culture in Finland and internationally. See the full list of Finnish creators that made the list here.
The IBBY Honour List is one of the most widespread and effective ways of furthering IBBY’s objective of encouraging international understanding through children’s literature. The titles are selected by the National Sections which can nominate one book for each of three categories. Thereafter, seven parallel sets of the books circulate around the world at exhibitions during conferences and book fairs.
We at Rights & Brands congratulate all creators that made the list!
